New Zealand is one of the classics in the WRC season and its fast, smooth and cambered gravel roads make it one of the favourites with drivers too. It's based from the town of Hamilton, 130km south of Auckland, close to the North Island's west coast and right in the heart of some spectacular undulating countryside which makes the stages fast, flowing and similar in many ways to those of Rally Finland.
With an all Finnish line-up, gravel is the Ford team's preferred surface, and in the battle for the drivers' rally championship, Mikko Hirvonen is going to have to go all out if he's to stop Loeb winning a fifth world title. The lead in the WRC drivers' championship has changed hands six times this season between Loeb and Hirvonen. Loeb now has 76 points, four more than Hirvonen, with five rounds of the championship to run.
(August 26, 2008) Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana grabbed victory at the Ojibwe Forests Rally, round seven of the 2008 Rally America National Championship, after his Subaru teammate Ken Block crashed out of the event while leading with just miles before the finish. The victory further extends Pastrana's championship lead and nearly guarantees him a third straight Rally America National Championship driver's title. If Pastrana finishes 6th or better in either of the two remaining rounds he and his co-driver Derek Ringer will mathematically secure the championship.
The Ojibwe Forests Rally featured over 140 miles of technical, sandy gravel, forest roads in northern Minnesota, around the town of Bemidji. The event is a favorite amongst rally drivers for its demanding fast and flowing roads and numerous night stages
We couldn't believe this when we saw it but this has got to be one of the best headlines of the year...if it is true. enjoy.
Spectators cheered as entire Cambodian Midget Fighting League squared off against African Lion.
Tickets had been sold-out three weeks before the much anticipated fight, which took place in the city of Kampong Chhnang.
The fight was slated when an angry fan contested Yang Sihamoni, President of the CMFL, claiming that one lion could defeat his entire league of 42 fighters.
Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

We found some shots of this Civic Type R rally car at the Monte Carlo Rallye while sorting images for the new WRC DVD. This JAS Motorsports entry was driven by Luca Betti at this year's event and serves as another sad reminder of how we Americans never get the cool cars that the rest of the world seems to get.
